For the start of the season at the Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Ville de Luxembourg the Belgian stage director Luk Perceval and Turkish writer Asl\u0131 Erdo\u011fan add a philosophical dimension to Mozart\u2019s singspiel\u00a0D<\/em>ie Entf\u00fchrung aus dem Serail<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>The Abduction from the Seraglio),<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>free from humoristic scenes,\u00a0<\/strong>that goes\u00a0<\/strong>beyond\u00a0<\/strong>oriental\u00a0<\/strong>stereotypes. On the occasion of this coproduction with the Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Gen\u00e8ve and the Nationaltheater Mannheim the\u00a0Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Ville de Luxembourg<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0the Institute Pierre Werner<\/strong>\u00a0present a talk on\u00a01 October 2022 at 6:3<\/strong>0 pm<\/strong>\u00a0with the Turkish writer who lives in exile in Berlin. Asl\u0131 Erdo\u011fan<\/strong>, born in 1967 in Istanbul, is not only a highly renowned Turkish contemporary writer, but also a particle physicist, columnist, feminist and human rights activist. In Turkey and all over the world she is a symbol for the resistance against the despotic rule of her home country. Her literary works (i.e.\u00a0The City in Crimson Cloak,\u00a0<\/em>2007 or\u00a0The Stone Building and Other Places,\u00a0<\/em>2018) have been translated into over 20 languages.
\nThey move\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<\/strong>storyline\u00a0<\/strong>into a\u00a0<\/strong>fast-tracked, globalized world in which the contrast between Orient and Occident has long since been obliterated\u00a0<\/strong>and nobody can find a way out of the\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cinner Serail\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nIn this talk preceding the opera performance,\u00a0Caroline Mart<\/strong>\u00a0(RTL) will speak with Asl\u0131 Erdo\u011fan specially about her life, her literary work but also about her Mozart adaptation.<\/p>\n
\nErdo\u011fan has received a large variety of prices: Most notably she was awarded the Sait-Faik price, the most significant literature award in Turkey in 2010, the Erich-Maria-Remarque Peace Price in 2017 and the Prix Simone de Beauvoir in 2018.
\nAs adamant supporter of the Kurdish minority in Turkey, Asl\u0131 Erdo\u011fan was arrested along with 22 other journalists after the failed military coup in her country and held in prison for months.<\/p>\n
